Bathroom Makeover With Brick (peel and stick) Wallpaper
Do y’all remember that hideous wallpaper from the 80’s?? We had it in our house growing up and my grandparents, TO THIS DAY, have it in their home! I remember watching my dad and the other men in the family go through the TORTURE of hanging that mess. I also remember what a NIGHTMARE it was to peel it off the wall, because ALL the family had to help. Including the children!! Bless it……
When I decided I wanted to redo my hall bath (which is the one my son uses and also our guests) I started searching small bathroom makeovers. I ran across rooms that were using wallpaper. But not that 80’s wallpaper that was a pain to hang, but PEEL AND STICK WALLPAPER!! WHAAATT??? So I immediately called my sister and was telling her about this wallpaper. She was like……Yeaaahhh…..NO!! Ha! Okay, but this is PEEL AND STICK so how hard can it be??
That was it y’all! I knew I had to try it!! I looked online at Walmart, found the wallpaper I wanted, measured the bathroom wall, and called Aunt Vicky so she could check out her local Walmarts to see if they had this wallpaper so I wouldn’t have to order it.
This is what I chose.
Vicky picked up 4 rolls for me just to make sure I would have plenty. You can always return the extra packs. Be sure they have the same LOT number. Now let me give you the steps I took to make this happen.
- After you have measured your wall from ceiling to baseboard, lay out your roll and cut the first piece like this. I added a little extra on the top and on the bottom so I had plenty to work with. Be sure to label this #1 so you will know this is the first piece that needs to be hung.
2. Okay, this part gets tricky so I would recommend you have help. Having a second set of eyes would be very helpful. I wish I would’ve waited on my sister to help with this part, but I got a little impatient. HA! Okay so once you lay out your second piece, you need to line up the bricks as best as you can so you don’t see the seam after the paper is hung. You will repeat this step until you have enough pieces to cover your wall. Don’t forget to label each piece so you know which ones to hang next!
3. Okay, so once you have all your pieces cut and labeled, it is time to hang!! This part is so exciting and I really enjoyed the challenge. Now again, if you have help it will be much easier. Start by peeling the back off a little at a time. Once I got the top stuck, I started working from the center out. This helped prevent any bubbling. Now you still may have some, but that’s okay. You won’t really be able to see them. I also used my cricut tool to help spread out the bubbles and to get things as smooth as possible. You will definitely need something for that, but you can use anything that is flat. A credit card or putty knife would work too.
4. Once you get the first piece on, it’s time to add the next piece. Don’t worry about trimming up any edges at the top or bottom until you are completely done.
5. Now you will just repeat these steps until your whole wall is covered! So you know I told y’all you would want to make sure everything is lining up properly?? This is why!
If you look closely, you can see the seams from piece to piece. This did not bother me because I knew I was putting things on that wall, so I left it. I was still very proud I did that myself and I loved thee way it looked! So just know that when you’re working with a design like the brick, it can get a little tricky!
6. Next up, the paint!! I found the PERFECT paint color at Lowes! It looked soooo good with the brick!
Isn’t this color awesome??? It reminds me of a stone and I literally fell in love with it! I chose this color in FLAT Valparaiso 2000. Because I used wallpaper on the larger wall, it took very little paint. I didn’t even use a half a gallon! After I painted, that was IT! I was able to complete this in 2 days. I fell in LOVE with this bathroom and have gotten so many compliments on how it looks. Tell me what y’all think!
I hope this was helpful and most of all I hope it has INSPIRED you!! If you are wanting to wallpaper a wall in your house I ENCOURAGE you to DO IT!! If I can do this on my own, you can do it too!!
