DIY Pedestal

I love when I get inspired by something I see in stores that I know I can make on my own!! Especially something that is super easy and SO inexpensive to make!

I always see these cute pedestals that you can use anywhere in your home. They add so much to whatever you are decorating. You can use them on counters, your mantle, on a shelf, or on a table. Pedestals can also be as small or as large as you need/want them to be. Depending on the size of your space will depend on what size you will need.

Last spring, I decided to make some of my own. I only had to buy a few supplies to put these together, everything else I had at home. So if you are already a crafter, you will probably have most of what you need. If you are not a crafter, but you love this idea and want to make a pedestal, then it still won’t cost much to buy all the supplies needed. You will love this project so much that the next time (because there will be a next time) you make one, you won’t have to buy anything but the wood!

These also make AWESOME gifts!! So keep that in mind when you are needing a cute gift.

Okay, so here is what you will need for these pedestals:

  • 1 wood plaque (I purchased mine at Hobby Lobby for about $3.00)
  • Assorted wood shapes (I also bought these at Hobby Lobby and they come 16 to a pack)
  • Glue gun and hot glue sticks
  • Paint or stain (depends on what look you are going for)
  • Paint brush

I don’t have any “in progress” pics to share. I’m terrible about taking pictures during a project, but this is really easy!

Now you can do this one of two ways, you can assemble the pedestal first and then paint or stain it, OR you can paint or stain it first and then assemble it. I prefer to assemble mine first, but it’s really up to you.

To assemble the pedestal, all you will do is choose which wood shapes you will want to use for the legs of your pedestal. Depending on the size of your wood plaque, will determine how many legs you will need. I have only made small pedestals and have used 4 legs on some and 3 legs on some. You can decide which is best for your pedestal.

After you have chosen your legs, you can glue them to the bottom of the wood plaque. Just glue them about a half an inch from the sides of each corner. Now if you are making a round pedestal, and it’s small, you will only need 3 legs and since there are no corners, you will place them about a half an inch from the sides.

Once you have glued on the legs, it is time to paint or stain. This is where it will become your own! Any color, any stain, whatever gives you the look you are picturing. That’s literally all there is to it! SO SIMPLE!!

Here are some that I have made and each one of these are different and each of them I LOVE!!

I hope you guys will try one of these cute pedestals!! They are so much fun to make and will look REALLY cute anywhere in your home!
