A little Rub ‘n Buff Makeover for a Vintage Christmas
I have recently discovered rub ‘n buff and have no idea why I am just now using this!! It is so easy, dries quick, and a little goes a long way.
So for Christmas this year, I am going with this whole Natural Christmas theme and will be using a lot of gold. Since I knew I was going to be doing a lot of crafting and DIYing, I went through some of my Christmas decorations that I could upcycle using rub ‘n buff. I had 2 of these rocking horses that I pilfered from my mom a few years ago. They are old. I don’t know how long she has had them, but I remember them from when I was younger. You will see in the picture below that this one was broken, so I tried this one first just in case it didn’t turn out.
I grabbed a couple paint brushes (you only need one), a tube of rub ‘n buff (Hobby Lobby) in the color antique gold, and a hand towel. Oh, and I prefer to craft on the sofa where I’m comfortable, so I used the tray as my table, ha!
Now a little bit of this goes a long way. It’s not like painting where you may need multiple coats. It goes on pretty thick so just don’t add too much to your brush. You can see here how well it’s covering with just the one coat.
This was one of the quickest projects I have ever done!! AND, it dries SO FAST, almost instantly!! There is a bit of a smell to it, kind of like stain. Just make a note of that if you have a sensitive nose. Also, some tutorials say to wear gloves. I did not, but that’s definitely up to you!
Let’s just take a look at the finish product.
Didn’t it turn out SO GOOD??? I’m already wondering how many tubes of rub ‘n buff I will go through in the next few weeks.
Now you guys go ahead and grab some, cause I know you want to try it too!
