Dresser Makeover
I don’t do a lot of furniture makeovers. I’m not sure why I don’t because the outcome is usually awesome and so worth it in the end. That’s how I felt with this dresser. It was given to me by a friend of my sister in laws. FREE YA’LL….FREE!
I loved it the way it was, but I was redecorating my bedroom to a vintage/farmhouse style and this wasn’t the look I was going for. Because I’m a neutral girl, I knew I would paint it either white or cream and put an antique wax over it.
I chose to go with Waverly Chalk Paint in the color Plaster and decided on Waverly Antique Wax. I bought mine at our local Walmart, but you should definitely be able to get it online. It cost around $7.00 for an 8oz bottle. I ended up using 2 bottles of the Plaster for this project and only a little bit of the wax. That wax goes a long way!
Once I purchased my paint and my brushes ( any regular paint brush works), It was time to get started. I took out the drawers and took off the hardware and got to painting.
This was after just one coat. I ended up applying another coat after the first coat dried. While the paint dried, I took my handles and knobs outside and spray painted them black (any black spray paint will work. I used what I already had at home).
Once the dresser was completely dry, it was time to use the wax. Now let me just tell ya’ll…..this is the FIRST time I did this. If you are a perfectionist, I would suggest you watch a couple tutorials. I didn’t feel like I needed to do that, because for me, I knew if it didn’t turn out the way I wanted it to, I would just fix it. I mean it’s paint right?? You can always change it.
So all I did was dip the paint brush in the wax and just lightly brush strokes of the wax throughout the dresser. I didn’t like the way it was looking at first, so I decided to use my other paint brush that had a little white paint on it and lighten up the paint strokes. This looked MUCH better! I wish I had taken pictures of all these steps, but I just wasn’t thinking about it at the time.
I used the same technique to the drawers as I did to the dresser.
By the time I was finished with the drawers, I was loving how this dresser was turning out. The colors were neutral and were perfect!! These pictures aren’t that great, but you get the idea of how it looks. I loved it so much I painted my roll top desk to match!
I hope ya’ll got a little inspiration and already have a project in mind! Don’t overthink these kinds of projects guys! It’s all about what you want, what you like, and what makes you happy!
